Re-Post...Birthin' Day.

And a repost, in memory of RE's day of birth...and one of the most important moments in our lives. I cannot believe our child is three years old, and that this day (and post) occurred three years ago.

Enjoy!

Something to keep her busy...

This has got to be one of my most awesome creations...I'm really proud of it. I got the vague idea from another website, but then forgot it, and thus, created my own. And my own little people and other "stuff" to go on it. RE calls it her planet, and on it, her people can do as they please. She's only seen it once, and it will be unveiled on the airplane this week...should be a hit!

All pouched up.

A little open.

All the way open! Grass, Pond, Road...very awesome.

Limitless

Just when I decide I'm done with winter, the old man come a-knocking again. And whilst I do love to grumble and groan about snow, and cold, and wind, and, um, cold, I found inspiration in the snowflakes today. Maybe it was because they were so fluffy, maybe because they were almost standing still while I drove (or walked) straight into them. Or maybe, and probably, it was because I could actually SEE them. Maybe I was just looking today. It was that kind of day. But today, I really stopped, and tried to SEE the snowflakes. Each one of them. And I was reminded, that even when I am convinced everything has been done before, and that there is nothing new out there, along comes a snowflake, or a whole flurry of them, to remind me that creativity is boundless. Limitless. Unending.

RE also reminds me of the boundless, limitless, unending depths of human creativity and imagination. Her presence, most days, is the best gift we could ever have been given. I know it's been said, time and time again, by parents the world over, in languages I cannot even fathom, but my child makes me see the world in ways I can't on my own. In my own busyness, literal-ness, and self-absorption, I cannot see what she can on my own, but with her guidance, I see everything anew.

Thank you, RE, for three years filled with moments of brilliance. I look forward to millions more.

Happy (almost) Birthday, Peanut-Butt.

Skirts Galore!

Ballet for the tiny ballerina. Well, she thinks she's a tiny ballerina. This is a birthday skirt...I'll post pictures of the doll that "matches" as soon as she's finished. A tee shirt dress I meant to finish last year...it'll still fit, but not for long!
Her owl skirt...I bit longer than I wanted it to be, but awfully cute.
The dot fabric was in my scrap stash, and I had just enough for the edges.

Curtains!

I'm crossing stuff off my to do list...so I finally finished these darn curtains. I love the way they look...I just attached a strip of the cool grey fabric to the tops of the old curtains, et voila! New curtains! And it looks like it's a valance, but it's not. I rarely actually open the curtains...they're so sheer you can see right through them, but they block just enough that I feel like I can leave the blinds up. I hate mini-blinds. They're a little bit evil, not to mention ugly. With the valance, you can barely see them (yep, they're down in the pictures...my bad).

I'm working on a small narrow curtain for the back door...mini-blinds on a door? Seriously?

Quick and Dirty Ring Sling for RE

Morning will tell if this fits her...and no, the doll is not hers yet. She needs hair! And her face isn't sewn on yet. And RE has to wait until the 29th. But the ring sling she can have tomorrow. Took 20 minutes at a WAY too late hour of the morning.

My new table...and pillows...and picture board.

I love this a lot. I love the fabric, love the colors, and love the tall table that hides bins of store stuff! And love that I've chosen to stash my projects on top of the table. Of course, the idea is to have just the current projects up there, and keep the junk to a minimum, but I am a cluttered person, and I'm going to make peace with that. So, this fabric matches my pillows, my picture board, and eventually, my curtains (next project).

Resolutions and Reflections

This past year has been a bit of a blur...and I'm determined to make this my last blurry year. I've spent my whole life being caught up in doing this, doing that, going here and going there, and I so rarely sit back and reflect on what I'm doing NOW.

Thus, my resolutions this year is to be content. To be at peace with what I have, and what I don't have, what I'm doing, and what I'm not doing, and not to really care what anyone else thinks.

Sounds simple, right?

I wish it were.

I have a feeling this is going to be a toughie, but I'm going to make it happen. I rarely make resolutions, because I cannot stand resolving to lose weight, eat less chocolate, or buy fewer things and have it last only a month, leaving you feeling empty and weak for not being able to stick it out. My last good resolution was many years ago, when I resolved to be nice.

I know, those of you who know me are thinking, but Katy is always so nice. Well, no, I'm not, and I certainly haven't always been like this. Those who've known me a long time (like, very long) know that for a long time, I was not nice. At all. To anyone. I took great pleasure in making people cry, and it came back to me big time, and in big ways. Karma's a bitch, right? So I resolved in, I believe 2000, to be nice. And like a switch, once I'd made that shift in my head, I made it in life also. And I've since had much better luck in life, and been a much happier person. Sure, I'm still snarky, and I can be downright nasty, but by and large, I'm a nice person.

So, I want to be a content person as well. Why? For one, I have nothing to NOT be content about. A great husband, a sweet daughter, a fun dog, a lovely home, clothing, food, internet access: the basics. For another, not being content is costing me, in both money and time. I spend time discontent with that I have, so that I have less to appreciate what I do have. I spend money trying to fill my life with things I think might make me content, but they never do. I spend energy wishing for a larger house, a quieter life, less debt, and none of that is going to change unless I (we) change it. And, I think, the first step to that is being content with what we have.

Resolution 2009: Be Content.

What's your resolution?

It's melting!

Finally...I love the snow and all, and it is pretty, but I'm so glad it's melting away. Don't get me wrong, it's still cold up here, but the snow is such a pain to get around in, and not at all fun to drive in, and while I would have loved to hibernate the days away, alas, we needed to eat, and get out, because I was going insane (as was the kiddo). So, we frolicked outside one last time, built one last snow castle, and mommy took pictures of the snow melting from the trees.

What's up next?

Well, RE's birthday, that's what.

And what's on the list for the little monkey?

A new mei tai (her old one is awfully small)
A wee wonderfuls doll
A black apple inspired doll
A table fort
Some doll clothes

And as for the rest of my list?

A blanket for Abby
Napkins for the S family
Hemming sleeves on an old shrunken sweater for RE
Gabe's bday present, just a little late

Oh, and RE's birthday party, which will be rather low key this year. At least, the Seattle one will be. The Cali party will no doubt be nutty.
